Ciggy Dancing to Jazz

  1. Hey Johnny, That's cool! I like this video it's very comedic and appealing, I like the character design, however I think the actual animation is a bit lacking with the movement of his dancing etc, and I think the legs are a bit too thick, so it looks strange and not as real, I like the Ripcord Break Dancing Hip Hop video more for animation and I think that's cause the simple movement is more appealing and realistic and I like the music and idea you're using though and perhaps if you just use the ciggy for the dance it will work better? Also try and have a look at some reference dance, I'm sure you probably just chucked this together to have a practice though and it's good, I just thought I'd critique it with some supposed constructive feedback, ha ha. I would like to see him dancing to some Hip Hop and ciggy era music etc!

  2. From Jason Lynch, feature film animator: "Thanks for sharing the love! ... Perhaps, constructively, ask Johnny to glue down his set and tripod and perhaps a plasticine stylised ciggy with replacement blinks and mouth would get better line of action and character. Otherwise, pretty good effort. He also made an oversight that I too have made, and that's doing the whole thing in one take/angle. If he went back and inserted a Midshot of CU of the feet in the 1/2 - 3/4 point would liven it up a bit too. (I did the same on a uni short I made 'what's your medium'.) ... Can I get picky? With the jazz music, perhaps the arms and hips should groove more than the legs. Just an observation. Still a good effort!
    Cheers, Jason"
