I find the sickly green skined villian appealling except for his clothes. If it was green skinned and a dark grey suit, that would be one to try. However, I think your choice is a good one. It has a sort of Hippo-pimp vibe.
As for furry critter I would love to see the classic red/blue combination (think Spidey or Superman) or red/yellow combo (think Mr. Incredible or Ironman). These colour combinations are imprinted on kids as hero colours and are worth trying for a class assignment. Sometimes it is good to reinforce colour concepts that are already imprinted on people's minds.
